The centenary celebration year begins…

1 January 2010

2010 has arrived and with it comes the start of our three-year global centenary celebrations. This year’s theme is Plant, focusing on how Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting has been planted in girls and young women and beyond community action and advocacy.

Already Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world have begun their celebrations already and at the start of 2010 many more will join them.

The Europe Region’s centenary celebrations have kicked off at Eurolife.03 which took place in Germany over the New Year with 70 Guides and Scouts not only celebrating but also looking at how they can change lives in the future.

At the same time and across the world at Our Cabaña, participants at its New Year friendship event will enjoy a unique Mexican new year celebration as well as celebrating the global centenary of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting.

10 April will be the main focus for our global celebrations so make sure you are doing something on that day and don’t forget to tell us about it!

For more information on both these stories, visit the Europe and Our Cabaña micro sites as well as to centenary pages.

We are 2 Associations that function in Sri Lanka where Old Scouts and Old Guides get together and try to give what we've learned through Scouting and Guiding to the Society and plant a good impression in the hearts of young scouts and guides. We would Like to join with you in what ever way possible to Develop and spread Scouting and Guiding in our districts, Country and even the world. The best friends we've met are through the Scout and Guide movements and we want that to be the same in all the years to come. Please let us know how we can join with you for your programmes

My Girls celebrated with a holiday party based on Mexico and inspired by a book they read in school... Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan. We set the room up with a Mexican theme and at some mexican food it wasn't quite Our Cabana but it was as close as we could get we had a blast and learned a lot!

I for one am very excited about the beginning of the centenary celebration. I will have the priviledge of attending Fusion in the UK on Aug 4 with my friend and sister Scout/Guider from Preston, England. You see we have a sister troop relationship. She has visited my troop in America and I have visited her Pack in Preston, England. We have planted the seeds of friendship in our girls. I feel honored to be able to celebrate GirlguidingUK's 100th birthday. I have invited my sister to help us celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts in 2012 in America. We are friends for life.
