World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Members' area

Monday

The theme for today was partnerships, recognizing their value and exploring future possibilities. María Elena Murillo, committee member from Costa Rica, presented the strategic planning session and delegates worked in small groups to discuss goals as well as possible directions for the next regional strategic plan.

In the afternoon, World Board members Mary Lynn Myers, Margaret Treloar and Linden Edgell, asked for input from delegates on the 2010-2012 centenary and WAGGGS Repositioning work. A range of unique ideas were discussed and hopes are high for what will be a great celebration of this milestone.

The day ended with an inspiring African drumming workshop by Drum Café. Volunteers, staff, committee members, delegates and observers joined together to learn how to play a drum. Everyone enjoyed the chance to feel the rhythm of over 140 drums playing at once. Bea González, World Centre Manager of Our Cabaña, received an special acknowledgement from her Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting friends as they danced around her, celebrating her many years of dedication to WAGGGS.

A highlight for the Canadian delegation was when one of the members, Kirsten Ramsey was invited by the Girl Guides Association of Dominica to speak on their national radio station about the Girl Guides of Canada/Guides du Canada – Dominica Twinning Project.
