Our last official conference day began with both Peru and Mexico presenting their bids to host the next Regional Conference in 2010.
Delegates from Venezuela, Guyana, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Canada and the US then participated in a panel discussion. They talked about young women’s involvement in decision-making, public relations, training and national policies.
Later on that morning, Member Organizations presented Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada with gifts of appreciation for hosting the event.
After lunch, the long awaited voting session arrived. Delegations gathered to cast their votes for the next Western Hemisphere Regional Committee as well as the location. Finally they decided that the next regional conference in 2010 will be held in Peru. The new members of the 2007-2010 Western Hemisphere Regional Committee are: María Elena Murillo Echeverria, Chairman (Costa Rica); Perla Casco Perez, Vice-Chairman (Honduras); Tanya Dawkins, member (USA); Rechanne Browne, member (St Vincent & the Grenadines); Kirsten Ramsay, member (Canada); and Laura Del Carmen Puig, member (Ecuador).
Final sessional and conference evaluations were then completed and Angela Dawson, gave an official goodbye. Delegates then departed on buses into downtown Toronto for an evening celebration. All participants, as well as over 200 Ontario Guiders and 103 Girl Guides, took part in the Impact 2007 girl event sailed for an hour’s boat cruise in the Toronto Harbour. The cruise ended on Ward’s Island and Girl Guides of Canada hosted a BBQ and a campfire. It was a perfect end to a fantastic conference!
