The Asociación de Muchachas Guías Scouts de El Salvador celebrated being one of ten finalists at the recent Gloria de Kriete Foundation of El Salvador’s ‘Helping People Who Help Themselves’ awards night.

Representatives of the Association proudly collected their USD$10,000 cheque as well as additional donations given by independent businesses and sponsors of the Gloria de Kriete Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting institutions that help low-income people in El Salvador.

The project entered in the awards is ‘Training of leaders using the Girl Guide/Girl Scout method’ which aims to train 600 volunteer Guides between the ages of 15 and 18 from schools in San Salvador, Santa Ana and La Libertad. After a three-months training, they will set up a Girl Guide/Girl Scout group in their schools addressing topics such as adolescent pregnancy, prevention of HIV and AIDS or risks of drug abuse.

With this project, the Asociación aims to increase their membership and contribute to the development of young leaders.
