Day 1

Right to be me

The participants from 10 countries focused their activities in the “Right to be Me” while working towards a greater understanding of the Educational Programme Implementation.

The adventure to explore the world of Educational Programme Development, through the book The Little Prince, began with patrols working together to accomplish seven tasks, such as clarifying expectations for the workshop and learning about the different talents and skills of individual patrol members.

The plane, in the story of The Little Prince that broke down, was used to show the different parts of the WAGGGS Educational Programme. Throughout the day the patrols worked together to understand how the plane could be put back together and how knowledge of the parts of the plane is necessary for a successful Education Programme.

While putting into practice the different aspects of the Programme (Girl Guide Method, Activities outdoors, understanding needs and reflection on values and the fundamental principles), participants accomplished a greater understanding of the Programme.

Lessons learned

MICIFY Patrol stated that these were their lessons learned:
  • We need to be patient, willing to listen and able to answer the girls questions, just like the Pilot with the little Prince and like the little Prince when he tamed the Fox
  • In the same way the little Prince and the Pilot learned from each other, we can learn from the girls just as much as they can learn from us
  • We need to cater to the individual needs of the girls. We could see how the pilot catered to the needs of the Little Prince
  • Together the Little Prince and the Pilot found water which satisfied their needs, highlighting the importance of teamwork and a shared, clearly defined vision
The adventure of the day ended with an out trip to the Caribbean Craft show that included typical crafts and items from the countries throughout the Caribbean.
